NIHI Sumba and Cap Karoso Package: West + Kodi 6D5N

**The NIHI Sumba and Cap Karoso package is a 6D5N trip: three nights at NIHI in Wanokaka, then two nights at Cap Karoso in Kodi, kept last because Karoso Beach sits about 50 minutes from Tambolaka airport (TMC). Land-only arrangements (excluding the resorts) run USD 570-1,020 per person on the 6D5N ladder as of 2026; resort nights are quoted separately.**

> We are an independent Sumba travel provider (Indonesia Juara Trip). This website is not owned, operated, sponsored by, or affiliated with NIHI Sumba. NIHI Sumba is mentioned as one accommodation option; bookings are subject to the hotel’s confirmation and terms. The same applies to Cap Karoso: an accommodation option, not a partner, with availability decided by the hotel.

Why does Cap Karoso sit next to the airport day?

NIHI Sumba is at Hoba Wawi, Wanokaka, West Sumba Regency, around 60-90 minutes from TMC depending on the road. Cap Karoso is at Karoso Beach, Kodi, Southwest Sumba Regency, about 50 minutes from TMC by the resort’s own estimate. Keeping Kodi last makes the departure morning your shortest transfer of the trip, with no cross-regency drive on a flight day.

It also sets the rhythm: Wanokaka’s swell, horses and valley walks first, Kodi’s peaked-roof villages and quiet coves second. Landing late? Reverse it and accept the 60-90 minute run back to TMC on departure day.

What does the route look like?

Leg Route Indicative drive time (as of 2026) Notes
Day 1 TMC to NIHI Sumba (Hoba Wawi, Wanokaka) 60-90 min Private 4×4 driver-guide; conditions vary
Day 2-3 NIHI to Lapopu, Marosi or Kerewei and back 30-90 min each way One resort day, one guided day
Day 4 NIHI to Cap Karoso (Karoso Beach, Kodi) 2-2.5 h via Waikabubak and Tambolaka Village stop en route
Day 5 Cap Karoso to Ratenggaro, Weekuri, Mandorak loop 30-60 min each way Kodi day
Day 6 Cap Karoso to TMC About 50 min (resort estimate) Leave three hours before departure

All times are indicative. Sumba is larger than Bali and much of the road network is rough or partly unpaved, so a private 4×4 driver-guide is the practical way to move.

Which Kodi day trips fit the Cap Karoso nights?

Kodi stop What it is Entry contribution (as of 2026) Best timing
Ratenggaro Megalithic village with the tallest traditional roofs on the island, above a river-mouth beach IDR 20,000-50,000 per person; up to IDR 100,000 in some regencies Late afternoon light
Weekuri lagoon Tidal saltwater lagoon you can swim in IDR 20,000 per person Morning, before day-trippers
Mandorak Small white-sand cove between limestone headlands, minutes from Weekuri Local fee, typically IDR 20,000-50,000 Pair with Weekuri

Add around IDR 200,000 for a drone. A Sumba fee guide updated 19 August 2026 also lists an airport tourist tax of IDR 50,000 (about USD 3.50) on arrival. Modest dress and permission before photographing people or homes are expected in every village, which is why the driver-guide walks in with you.

What does a sample 6D5N look like?

Day Stay Programme
1 NIHI Sumba Fly DPS-TMC (about one hour; schedules change, so no timetables here). Transfer to Wanokaka. Sunset on the beach.
2 NIHI Sumba Resort day: surf, horses, spa or a valley walk. NIHI’s on-island experiences are priced separately per person or per couple in IDR.
3 NIHI Sumba Guided day: Lapopu waterfall, Marosi or Kerewei beach, a Wanokaka village. Back for dinner.
4 Cap Karoso Check out, drive via Waikabubak and Tambolaka with a village stop. Afternoon at Karoso Beach.
5 Cap Karoso Kodi loop: Weekuri and Mandorak in the morning, Ratenggaro for the late light.
6 Departure Breakfast, about 50 minutes to TMC, fly out.

A 7D6N adds a night on either side; a 4D3N with a 2+1 split loses most of one day to the inter-resort transfer.

Indonesia Juara Trip’s 6D5N land-only ladder is USD 570 or USD 1,020 per person as of 2026 (luxurysumba.com/sumba-trip-cost): land-only, excluding the resort. The tier depends on vehicle, group size and guided-day count; exact inclusions are itemised in your written quote.

NIHI Sumba’s public rates page states that all room rates exclude a 21 percent government tax and service charge; its 2026 price document, dated March 2026, quotes in IDR with USD converted at the prevailing rate and the final charge set on the day of payment. Cap Karoso’s nightly rate comes from the property’s 2026 rate sheet when you enquire. No combined total appears on this page: a two-resort total is only ever a confirmed quote from the Indonesia Juara Trip team, checked against live availability.

When should you go?

Sumba’s dry season runs roughly May to October; several Sumba planners call June to September the sweet spot, and a 30-year satellite analysis flags June, July and August at around 30°C with roughly a 9 percent chance of rain. Peak months need early booking because high-end room supply is small. September-October brings fewer visitors and softer prices. January and February turn the Wanokaka-to-Kodi road muddy and slow, so we advise against this pairing then.

How does booking work?

  1. Send dates, party size and preferred split (3+2 is standard; 2+3 and 4+2 also work) to WhatsApp 628119941919 or sales@indonesiajuara.asia.
  2. We check availability with both hotels. Every night is subject to each hotel’s confirmation and terms.
  3. You receive one written quote: the land-only line, dated and per person; resort nights at each property’s 2026 rate sheet, NIHI’s 21 percent tax and service shown separately; excluded items listed.
  4. Deposit and confirmation follow each hotel’s own policy, passed to you unedited.
  5. Pre-arrival brief: DPS-TMC flight options, the electronic customs and health declarations to complete within three days of arrival, visa on arrival (30 days, about IDR 500,000) and the Bali tourism levy of IDR 150,000 if you transit Bali.
  6. On the ground, your driver-guide meets you at TMC and stays until the final airport run.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which should come first in a NIHI Sumba and Cap Karoso package?

NIHI first, Cap Karoso last, in most cases. Karoso Beach is about 50 minutes from Tambolaka airport by the resort’s estimate, against 60-90 minutes from NIHI in Wanokaka, so ending in Kodi gives you the shortest transfer on departure day. Reverse it only if you land late and prefer the shorter drive on arrival.

How long is the drive between NIHI Sumba and Cap Karoso?

Indicatively 2-2.5 hours by private 4×4 via Waikabubak and Tambolaka, longer with village stops or after rain. Both resorts are in western Sumba but in different regencies: NIHI in West Sumba, Cap Karoso in Southwest Sumba. We plan the transfer as a half-day with a stop, not a dash.

Does the package price include the room rates at NIHI and Cap Karoso?

No. The published figures are Indonesia Juara Trip’s land-only ladder (6D5N USD 570 or 1,020 per person as of 2026), which excludes both resorts. Room nights are quoted from each hotel’s 2026 rate sheet, and NIHI’s rates exclude 21 percent tax and service. The combined total is issued only as a confirmed quote after availability checks.

Is a 4D3N split between NIHI and Cap Karoso worth it?

It is possible with a 2+1 split but tight, because the inter-resort transfer consumes most of a day and leaves a single Kodi morning. Six nights is the shortest version that gives NIHI its coast days and Cap Karoso a full Kodi loop. With only four nights, pick one resort and keep the days.
