Nihi Sumba Trip 6 Days 5 Nights: Two-Lodge Route

**A nihi sumba trip 6 days 5 nights is a two-lodge route: three nights at NIHI Sumba or a comparable Wanokaka lodge, one overland day, then two nights at Cap Karoso in Kodi, Lelewatu, or a Central or East Sumba lodge. Indonesia Juara Trip’s 6D5N land-only ladder is USD 570 or 1,020 per person, as of 2026, excluding the resort.**

Why split six days between two lodges?

Sumba is larger than Bali, with rough, partly unpaved roads, so a 3-night or 4-night stay is best kept to one side of the island. Six days gives you enough slack to base on the Wanokaka coast for three nights, move once, and see a second region properly instead of glimpsing it from the car.

The 3 + 2 split is deliberate. Three nights in Wanokaka covers the surf coast (Marosi and Kerewei beaches), Lapopu waterfall and the megalithic villages around Waikabubak without a single dawn departure. Two nights at the second property leaves one full day there and an unhurried morning before the flight. Every extra lodge change costs half a day on the road; three properties is a mistake we talk clients out of.

What does the day-by-day route look like?

Drive times are indicative, as of 2026. Rain, road works and river levels move them by an hour either way, especially between November and April.

Day Base Programme Road time (indicative)
1 Wanokaka lodge (NIHI Sumba or comparable) Fly Bali to Tambolaka (about one hour), private 4×4 to Hoba Wawi 60-90 min from TMC
2 Wanokaka lodge Marosi and Kerewei beaches, Wanokaka ridge villages (Praigoli, Waigalli) 1-2 h total
3 Wanokaka lodge Lapopu waterfall in Manupeu Tanah Daru, megalithic villages near Waikabubak (Tarung, Waitabar, Praijing) 2-3 h total
4 Overland to lodge B Move day with stops; see the pairing matrix 30 min to 7 h by pairing
5 Lodge B Full day in the second region 2-4 h total
6 Depart Morning free, transfer to TMC or WGP 50 min to 1.5 h

Day 3 is the longest West Sumba day: Lapopu involves a short walk inside the national park, so combine it with the Waikabubak villages rather than driving back to the coast in between.

Which second lodge pairs best with Wanokaka?

Four pairings work for a nihi sumba trip 6 days 5 nights. The right one depends on your departure airport, how much driving you accept on Day 4 and the season.

Second property Region Day 4 overland (indicative) Day 5 highlights Fly out from Best for
Cap Karoso Karoso Beach, Kodi, Southwest Sumba 2.5-3.5 h via Waikabubak and Tambolaka Ratenggaro, Weekuri lagoon, Mandorak TMC (about 50 min, resort estimate) One-airport loop, Kodi coast
Lelewatu Wanokaka, West Sumba (about 63 km from TMC) Under 30 min Second villa style, Lapopu revisit, surf beaches TMC (1-1.5 h) Minimal driving, two Wanokaka lodges compared
Central Sumba lodge Waikabubak and surrounds 1-2 h Anakalang megaliths, Matayangu falls trek, weaving villages TMC (1-1.5 h) Culture first, young families
East Sumba lodge Waingapu area 5-7 h with stops Wairinding hills, Walakiri sunset, Tanggedu, Puru Kambera WGP (Waingapu) Cross-island route, dry season only

High-end room supply is small. In June, July and August every one of these properties can be full weeks ahead, so availability often decides the pairing. That is why our quote form asks for a first and second choice.

What does a nihi sumba trip 6 days 5 nights cost?

The only published figures are Indonesia Juara Trip’s land-only ladder, taken from luxurysumba.com/sumba-trip-cost, as of 2026. It excludes the resort. Resort nights are added as a separate line from each property’s own 2026 rate sheet, and the total is issued only as a confirmed quote by the Indonesia Juara Trip team.

Line item Amount (as of 2026) Notes
6D5N ground programme, standard USD 570 per person Land-only, excludes resort
6D5N ground programme, upper tier USD 1,020 per person Land-only, excludes resort
NIHI Sumba room nights Indicative, from the resort’s March 2026 rate sheet Quoted in IDR, USD at the prevailing rate; all room rates exclusive of 21 percent government tax and service charge
Cap Karoso or Lelewatu room nights Indicative, from each resort’s 2026 rate sheet Subject to hotel confirmation
Sumba airport tourist tax IDR 50,000 (about USD 3.50) On arrival, per the fee guide updated 19 August 2026
Village contributions IDR 20,000-50,000; up to IDR 100,000 in some regencies Cash, handed over by your guide
Waterfalls, lagoons, drone IDR 20,000-200,000; Weekuri IDR 20,000 per person; drone around IDR 200,000 Varies by regency
Bali levy and visa on arrival IDR 150,000 per international visitor (since 14 February 2024); VOA about IDR 500,000 for 30 days Levy applies if you transit Bali; declarations within three days of arrival

The gap between USD 570 and USD 1,020 reflects vehicle class, guide seniority and how many paid experiences sit inside the ground programme. On-island experiences at NIHI are priced separately per person or per couple in IDR, according to the resort’s 2026 price document, and never enter our land-only figure. Do not add the lines yourself and call it a package price: resort rates move with the exchange rate at payment, and the final figure depends on which pairing the hotels confirm.

How does booking work?

  1. Send dates and pairing. WhatsApp 628119941919 or email sales@indonesiajuara.asia with travel dates, party size and a first and second choice of second lodge.
  2. Availability check. The Indonesia Juara Trip team checks rooms directly with each property. Hotels are accommodation options, not partners; confirmation and terms are the hotel’s.
  3. Written quote. One document: the land-only line, the resort line per property, government fees and exclusions.
  4. Confirm. Once you approve the quote, the team secures the rooms and the private 4×4 driver-guide under the terms stated on it.
  5. Pre-trip brief. Flight guidance for Bali to Tambolaka (schedules change, so we never publish timetables), the declaration deadline and village etiquette.

What should you skip in the wet season?

The wet season runs November to April and is heaviest in January and February. Rain usually arrives as afternoon downpours, so mornings stay workable and temperatures hold at 26-31°C. For a 6D5N two-lodge trip, that changes the plan in three ways.

  • Skip the East Sumba pairing in January and February. Mud and swollen rivers stretch West-East transfer times and turn the Day 4 crossing into a gamble. Choose Cap Karoso, Lelewatu or a Central lodge instead.
  • Skip Tanggedu and the Matayangu trek after heavy rain. Both involve river crossings or slippery approaches. Wairinding and Walakiri stay accessible.
  • Front-load each day. Lapopu, Ratenggaro and Weekuri before noon; villages and the lodge after.

The dry season, May to October, removes these compromises. Several Sumba-focused planners call June to September the sweet spot, and a 30-year satellite analysis flags June, July and August as ideal, with about 30°C average temperatures and roughly a 9 percent chance of rain. September and October bring fewer visitors and somewhat lower prices; April and November are mixed shoulder months. Sea temperature sits around 26-28°C, with the most consistent swell on the west and south coasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 6 days 5 nights enough to see both West and East Sumba from NIHI?

Yes, in the dry season, if you accept one long day. The 3 + 2 split gives three nights in Wanokaka, a 5-7 hour overland Day 4 with stops in Central Sumba, and two nights near Waingapu, flying out of WGP. From November to April, keep the trip on the west side.

Does the USD 570 or USD 1,020 price include the NIHI room?

No. Both figures are Indonesia Juara Trip’s land-only ladder for 6D5N, as of 2026, and exclude the resort entirely. Room nights at NIHI Sumba, Cap Karoso or Lelewatu are added as a separate line from each property’s 2026 rate sheet, and the combined total is issued only as a confirmed quote.

Which airport do I fly out of on a 6-day two-lodge trip?

Tambolaka (TMC) for the Cap Karoso, Lelewatu and Central Sumba pairings, since all three sit within about 50 minutes to 1.5 hours of the airport. Waingapu (WGP) for the East Sumba pairing. Both connect to Bali; flight schedules change, so confirm the day’s departures in the pre-trip brief.

How far ahead should I book a June to August 6-day trip?

As early as you can fix dates. High-end room supply on Sumba is small, and in June, July and August villas, private 4×4 cars and senior guides sell out weeks ahead. Sending a first and second pairing choice lets the concierge lock whichever property confirms first.
