What does the Nihi Sumba trip planner actually do?
Sumba is larger than Bali, with rough, partly unpaved roads and few high-end rooms. The desk works in five lanes:
- Route design across four regencies. West Sumba (Wanokaka, Marosi and Kerewei beaches, Lapopu waterfall), Southwest Sumba (Kodi, Ratenggaro, Weekuri lagoon), Central Sumba (megalithic villages, Matayangu falls) and East Sumba (Walakiri, Wairinding hills, Tanggedu, Puru Kambera). A 3-4 day trip stays on one side of the island; 7-8 days can cross it, arriving at Tambolaka (TMC) and departing Waingapu (WGP) or the reverse.
- Hotel availability requests. We send your dates to NIHI Sumba, Lelewatu, Cap Karoso or a boutique villa and relay the answer. Hotels are accommodation options, not partners.
- Transfers. NIHI Sumba sits at Hoba Wawi, Wanokaka, West Sumba, roughly 60-90 minutes from TMC, conditions varying. Lelewatu is also in Wanokaka, about 63 km from TMC, indicatively 1-1.5 hours. Cap Karoso is at Karoso Beach, Kodi, Southwest Sumba, about 50 minutes from TMC by the resort’s own estimate. Pickups are timed to the flight you hold; we publish no timetables.
- Driver-guides. A private 4×4 driver-guide is the practical way to move on Sumba. Guides also carry village etiquette: modest dress, permission before photographing people or homes, the contribution envelope.
- Fee budgeting and timing. Airport tax, village contributions, waterfall and lagoon tickets, drone fees, Bali’s transit levy and visa on arrival go on one dated sheet.

Peak months need this lead time because villas, cars and guides are all scarce. September-October brings fewer visitors and somewhat lower prices. January-February mud and swollen rivers stretch west-east transfers, so we do not propose cross-island circuits then.

Tiers differ by vehicle, guide seniority and activity depth. Resort nights are separate. NIHI Sumba’s public rates and inclusions page states that all room rates exclude a 21 percent government tax and service charge; its 2026 price document, dated March 2026, quotes in IDR with USD at the prevailing rate, and on-island experiences are priced per person or per couple in IDR. We forward that sheet rather than paraphrase it. Your total is issued only as a quote confirmed by the Indonesia Juara Trip team.
Fee lines, according to a Sumba fee guide updated 19 August 2026: village contributions IDR 20,000-50,000, up to IDR 100,000 in some regencies; waterfalls and lagoons IDR 20,000-200,000; drone fees around IDR 200,000. Visa on arrival: 30 days, about IDR 500,000.

Is the Nihi Sumba trip planner free to use?
The route draft, season advice, hotel availability request and fee sheet are free. You pay only when you approve a land-only quote for the driver-guide, 4×4 and activities, plus the resort under its own terms. No deposit is taken before you accept, as of 2026.
Can the planner book my room at NIHI Sumba directly?
No. We are not the hotel and hold no allotment. We send your dates and room preference to NIHI Sumba, relay the answer and current rate sheet, and the booking is confirmed under the hotel’s terms. The same applies to Lelewatu, Cap Karoso and boutique villas.
How far ahead should I contact the planner for a June to August trip?
Twelve to sixteen weeks is comfortable for peak season, because villas, 4x4s and guides on Sumba are few and June-August is the driest, busiest window. Shoulder months such as September-October or April can work on four to six weeks’ notice, subject to hotel confirmation.
Can the planner combine NIHI Sumba with East Sumba on one trip?
Yes, on 7-8 days. A typical shape is three nights at Wanokaka, then a cross-island drive through Central Sumba villages to Waingapu for Walakiri, Wairinding and Tanggedu, departing from WGP. On 3-4 days we keep you on the west side; the roads make a rush impractical.
Does the planner handle flights from Bali to Tambolaka?
We can hold them on request at fare, or you book your own. Bali to TMC is a domestic flight of about one hour, but schedules change, so we publish no timetables; we match your transfer to the flight you hold. Transiting Bali triggers the IDR 150,000 tourism levy.
